My son, Aditya, accepted the offer in Texas A&M engineering college and is aspiring Comp Sc/Aerospace @College Station campus. Out of 13 colleges he applied (in state and out of state) , he got acceptance in 12 colleges and few of them with full ride. He got 1400 in SAT (Maths:760, Verbal:640) with the help of KD College Prep. KD college prep helped him to get that much score in SAT. Their techniques, syllabus, tests and the teachers cooperation are really excellent. Their personal care on each student throughout the preparation is awesome. The way they are sharpening the students from day-1 is extraordinary. I do recommend KD college prep for my younger son and others too. Best Regards, Pisupati.
Although they did offer numerous lessons on "tricks and tips" to implement in the SAT/ACT, I don't consider the over two thousand dollars spent being any worth for some packets and tutoring help. The overall experience raised my score about 50 points on the actual SAT. After leaving KD and through practicing in my own interests, I was able to improve about 100 points the year following on the SAT. With that being said, I do not believe the expenses amounted towards this program is really worth a mere 50 point increase, especially since universities are placing less emphasis on these standardized test score anyways. In my opinion, self-motivated practice this the most rewarding both financially and result wise. However, if you can't get yourself to do that on your own, you could be dishing out a couple grand for some KD tutoring...
I don't normally write reviews, but a lot of kids will go to KD, and they must know what they are getting into. In my opinion, the KD methodology for SAT preparation is very flawed, period. Yes, some students had good results; KD also employs a number of teachers, providing valuable employment in the community, and gives high school students opportunities for part time work. However, in the most important part -- how to improve SAT scores -- they seem to ignore the obvious. If a student shows deficiencies based on a practice test, a good prep should focus on those deficiencies, try to improve, and then check on subsequent tests if those were overcome. This is just common sense. This is adaptive learning that every student subconsciously follows in their every day life. (if you score low on some subjects compared to others, where would you spend more time on?) KD gives *NO* opportunity for adaptive learning. Their workshops are designed to be "secret" -- students go blindly to workshops and they get a set of questions of some topics which is common to *everyone*. During the very first meeting with a director, I got a nagging feeling that there was something wrong, and I asked them why they don't adjust the lesson plans according to individual student's requirements. I asked this again in other forums, but the answer was always the same; they believe their methodology works. I watched helplessly for a whole year as my kid's scores fluctuated within +-50 around 1400 in the KD tests. When the actual SAT score came, she got a 1480 (scoring 710 in Math, which is her strength). She worked very hard -- and it is a decent score -- but she was disappointed. I decided enough was enough. I quickly looked up online reviews and took a popular online course (Covid restricted the options anyway). It cost $299 and I was seething with anger to spend this additional amount after already spending $2700 on KD. However, I knew something must change. My kid had only 20 days before the next SAT. She worked on this website every day and took tests frequently. Guess what? The lesson plans adapted to her test performance. When her score for the Nov 7th SAT came, she scored a 1580. She is very happy with the score. For me, it was the best $299 spent on the new prep site, with KD being the worst $2700 I've spent, vindicating my suspicions. It is clear now what I should do for my younger kids. The goal of this review is not get my money back or to promote some other SAT prep -- I have tried to avoid that if you can see. However, I do hope parents and their kids carefully evaluate after the first meeting with KD and see if this works for them. I had my suspicions but went with the crowd, not wanting to put my kid at a disadvantage. But, I paid dearly with both money, and more importantly, my kid's time.
Excellent, excellent college prep program! Their prepared and attentive staff walk you step by step through every phase of college application process, not just the SAT. Plenty of online and on-site courses to fit your student's busy schedule. Well worth the money invested to help you child succeed in this process. Thanks KD college!
The overall design of the program is very well thought out. We have found KDs seminars very helpful too. They ensure good communication between the campus and parents about resource utilization. They put the effort into collecting college information to help the parents. The one area they could perhaps improve upon is taking student feedback on faculty. Some faculty members go too fast in the workshops. Of course, it is a two way street and maybe some students are finding that pace just fine and others are finding it too fast. Since KD has put the thought into designing a well rounded program maybe they will look into this one suggestion as well.
